I can be a spontaneous person. In fact, I’d say I’m more fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants than most. It’s how I like to work. It allows me to be creative in a way planning every little detail wouldn’t allow me to be.
Recently, I heard a TED talk on this personality trait. Apparently, I am a procrastinator and this makes me more creative than all those OCD planners that actually get stuff done on time. You know, bankers and executives. Martha Stewart. And this isn’t a bad thing? You can find this TED talk HERE. Seems legit to me!
This is all great and everything until your 8 months pregnant, photographing a wedding, and your water breaks just before the dancing begins.
I kid you not.
Broke in the middle of Piper Glen Country Club. On the carpet. It may still be there…
Sorry, Piper Glen. Sorry baby who we have prepared nothing for. No clothes. Nothing. Thank the Lord for Amazon!
I’m also calm under pressure. You can ask my husband. He would say I freakout over little things that really don’t matter. But my water breaking while filming a wedding? No problem. Let’s keep shooting. In fact, I’ll shoot for another 2 hours until my back ups arrive. And that’s what I did. Crazy. Town.
Did I mention that I was also 5 weeks early? Yep. I was 34 weeks and 5 days.
Thankfully, my dear friend put me in contact with Jeni who showed up, last minute, armed like a ninja warrior and killed it for me (along with my dear friend and assistant.) Jeni’s work can be seen HERE. She is wonderful! A saint!
So, after driving myself to the ER. Hanging out for two days while I received steroids to help our baby’s lungs mature, we welcomed our third child, a boy. John Henry Alister McQuade. All 5.5 lbs of him. Goodness, he is wonderful. And healthy. Jesus is too good to us.
Henry cracks me up. He looks JUST LIKE his sisters. Not kidding. We make lovely little clones.
Also, this is my favorite type of baby photography. Simple. Sweet. And Henry was happy the whole time. No squishing him into positions he was not into. No weird baskets. Just this baby. And all the little things that make him wonderful.
In other news, I am back at it. Photography. Making dinner. Not sleeping. The whole wonderful mess.
And all the McQuades are in love.
