Many times, I have the privilege of photographing families over many years. Maternity, newborn, milestones, and more. Usually, families who invest with me value and love photography. Not only as art, but also documenting these fleeting moments that deserve to be captured lovingly.
I’ve had the honor of photographing this sweet family many times over the years, after their first daughter was born. And I watched as over the last two years they grieved over the loss of a baby in between these two miracle girls.
Momma brought this blanket out for the session, and I knew exactly the image she had in mind. If you aren’t familiar with what a rainbow baby is, they are that child born after the loss of one. They are a reminder of the provision of God’s grace. That He is our shelter, and our portion. Just like the rainbow after the flood.
So it was important to me that I nail this picture. Which I am so thankful I did. And, as I always do now, we caught some other moments with sweet baby by herself and her big sister.
I love the bright pretty light in these images, and the connection and documentation of these sisters.
I love pulling out my special macro Nikon lens and grabbing those pretty teeny details.
I always include parents in images, whether we are photographing in the studio or in my clients homes. Parent images are so critical to a complete session. And I encourage, and sometimes downright force, parents to be in pictures. I literally doesn’t matter how you feel in front of the camera (which I totally get!) I will make you look and feel beautiful through creative and important photography. The thing is, everyone can take a bad picture. It’s my job to make you look your best. So even if you’re feeling swollen and gross, book a session. Get your makeup and hair done and do it. Because this time goes away so quickly!
