Maternity Photography FAQ
Why a Maternity Photography session?
When should I reserve my maternity session?
When it comes to scheduling a maternity photography session in the Charlotte NC area, timing is everything. It's important to choose the right time for your session to ensure that you capture the beauty of your pregnancy and your growing belly. I recommend scheduling your maternity session between 26-32 weeks of pregnancy, depending on how you carry your baby, and if this is your first pregnancy.
Scheduling your session during this time ensures that your belly is round and prominent, but you are not yet too uncomfortable or close to your due date. I want you to feel comfortable during your session and be able to move around easily without feeling too heavy or tired.
It's important to book your session as early as possible to ensure that I have availability in our schedule. I recommend booking your session at least 4-6 weeks in advance to secure your spot.
My goal is to make your maternity session as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I know that being pregnant can be tiring and overwhelming, so I will work with you to create a session that meets your needs and preferences. I will guide you through poses and help you feel confident and beautiful in front of the camera.
I specialize in maternity photography and have experience capturing the beauty of pregnancy in a way that is natural, elegant, and timeless.
And because I have my own, private photography studio in the Charlotte area, we can have a mix of studio and on-location sessions.
Are other family members included?
Yes! I include all immediate family (partners, spouses, children) in your session. It's important to me that we not only create beautiful images of what you've prayed and hoped for these last several months and year, but that we celebrate the change your whole family is about to make.
What to do with these images?
I think a lot of women don't book a maternity session because they either don't feel that great (and I get that, and that's why we photograph them early!) or because they just aren't sure what to do with maternity images. That's why I provide a variety of ways to enjoy, preserve, and protect these important motherhood portraits. From fine are prints, to albums, to custom -framed portraits, it's important to me that you enjoy these portraits you will only have once in your life.

When Should I Reserve My Session?
When is the best time to photograph my baby?
I would say any time is the perfect time for portraits with your sweet new baby! In general, I like 2-6 weeks, 6+ months (or when they can sit up well unassisted) and at a year old or when they are just about walking. I typically don't photograph children between 3-5 months.
Newborn photography sessions are generally reserved after the 20 week ultrasound, and in most cases several months before your due date. This ensures I have space on my calendar. If you're due in the fall, please do reach out months in advance because those months tend to fill-up quickly!
Are siblings included?

All immediate family members are included in your session. I also have everything on-hand that I need for the perfect newborn portraits, such as white wraps, heirloom quilts, knitted outfits, and more.
Yes, babies are definitely on their own schedule, and many times arrive 3 weeks on either end of your due date. Newborn sessions are reserved around your due date, then once baby is born we schedule a hard-date 2-4 weeks after.

What happens if my kids dont' cooperate?
What will I wear?
No sweat! I've got you, mama! I've created a gorgeous wardrobe full of dresses that fit and photograph well! So you will look you best and you don't have to go to the mall unless you want to. 😉
Oh man, we've all been there! But in the past 10 years, I've had a handful of truly exceptional circumstances (and both times the poor kiddo really had an ear infection!) But I do A LOT to prevent these meltdowns from happening, from music to treats and more, I'm pulling out ALL THE STOPS!

I always reschedule for rain and very over-cast days.
After all, I love sun in photographs, and chances are, you do too!
If you 100% know you want something in the months of September-November, please reach out by June for availability. I only take on so many a month to ensure I'm giving everyone my best, and to allow for that pesky NC weather
